fall rains

there it is
on the rooftops
dripping on the canoe in the
next door neighbours yard
reminds me of the voyaguers
who slept under their canoes
in the rain with their cargo
of furs and supplies
it sifts down from the sky
hissing on the damp ashphalt
shingles whispers on the bricks
when the wind shoves it against
the wall
the leaves shiver
those that are left golden yellow
on the birch branchs
