downtowner

rain is falling
sweet small drops

birds linger in
greening trees
and traffic
is a constant
tide
rushing through
the dusted streets
of this city

not quite downtown yet
stopped in to this library
where it all began
for me back in 2003/4/5/
maybe earlier

i sit with plaster dust
all over me exhausted
from my part time busy
little job

the walk from work and
then downtown here is a
long one but eventful
passing streets and neighbour
hoods

crossing the formidable
seventeen and eleven
intersections
the trans canada highway

so many cars and heavy
trucks

its hard to believe gas
is over a dollar a litre
up here

no money for coffee
but no matter
there is lots at home
when i get there
and a freezer with good
food too
salads in the fridge
eggs fish soups in
the cupboards
tea of two varietys even

its so late
almost three thirty
no wait its three thirty
five p.m.

probably raining out
when i leave here
i may get a soaking
but i love the spring
rains

well gotta go
get home
get something to
eat
do my laundry

and the usual

..O..
