silent winters night
when only owls hunt
where the moon burns
a million flames on
the crisp skin of
ice leaping and dancing
pretty sequin coat

slowly November
comes
in long shadows
and peircing sunsets
hot as slag

the mirages on the
lake flat as blades
when no wind stirs
