ISLANDS seem to have a shim of
tan leather beneath them
the lake is so low
emptied during winter
the winter of less snows

the islands are riveted
bolted to the lake
to keep them from drifting
when they sleep
and when they sleepwalk
it keeps them so their
shores remember them
and promise to encircle
them with its arms of depths
when they settle

the leater buffers them
so they can bear the weight
of the sky when its moody
and full of doubt grey
and threatening

keeps them from fracturing
into straights
like a Fijord of majestic
flaw

We keep the rune bones buried
now and we burned Ouija
and barely look into the
looking glass past midnight
