orgami's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

trinkets

horseflies hitting us
we worked our way along the
fields edge
the thick over growth
the houses standing far off
in this heat

I know that sitting on the couch
the coal oil lamps going
the matress on the floor with
its nice blankets
the screens to keep out mosquitoes
that a storm will arrive in off
the lake

but for now we are just circumventing
the village for something to do
driving the pedal bikes through the
gravel past the ruined houses where
people once lived laughed played cards
picked up the phone when it rang

suspicious villagers
its a small place
and my blue eyes cause
some concern
for some
but not for others

I remember digging out the springs
like the elder asked
taking his shovel
no one could give me a real reason
enough not too

the water treatment plant was coming
but they are manned by men or women
and need chemicals added
stored water is not stable
fresh spring water usually is

now they have troubles with the
system.. built too small they accepted
or took the money and built it small
to keep the cash

no one thinks about the future
no one thinks about the kids not
even born yet

but I did
but I was just one man
then

like now

and there are so many voices
thirsty
for the truth
