Dresden pallor

remember
back

the first hot nights
of that summer

sleeping beside you

waking up in the
middle of the hours
of dark

watching the fluttering
moths and insects dance
around the amber lamp
on the grizzled pole
outside our second floor
window

out of a dream
to follow the tailights
of cars going into the
downtown core

the heavy unknown darkness
of the schoolyard between
our street and that

the far houses row upon row
like a tiny village

laying beside you awake
listening to your breath
your skin soft and pale
your lashes and brows dark

streetlight reaching in
abstract angles from the
low windows

hot lazy air unmoving
peaceful
tranquil

your tatoos curve to your
small arms
honouring whom you love

and now far from that time
i sit and write
awake just like then

thinking of that place
that streetlamp
and how i would
sit with you dreaming

so far
so far
we have come

so far we shall grow

together my love
