april flowers

rain and snow and the wind of
indelibility stroking winters
tiring face

water races away pouring over
concrete lawns and through spillways
and hungry small creeks
the sun grows fatter each day
climbing higher
becoming stronger

soon the grasses will emerge
long after the flowers striving
to thrive their sunsoaked
heads blossoming in the bleak
landscapes of yet
