sky rivers

the great heat
was here
and I was in it

bathed in its
hot breath
the light was
brilliant
and peircing

even my thin
soul cast
its weak shadow

darkness fell
before four
and then the
rains dropped
like a waterfall

the trees swam
the lawns flooded
streets danced

night merged with
silence
and quiet wonder

a restive peace
stole into the
hours

dreams were settled
like dust to mud

and I dreamt wildly
till dawn
