cottage dream

Saturday

Lori watching the tube behind me
kids gone from their visit from
college

Next few days of nothing doing
back to the shop Tuesday
Buses growl through the corner
overcast day today

must have rained heavy last night
there was thunder and lightening
when I was taking the trash out to
the dumpster out back

kids over next door at the row
apartments hanging outside smoking
and laughing the pavement damp
and reflecting the light from
outside the bland doors

slept fitfully last night tossing
and turning Dreams again
all about the past Why not the
future??

Dreamt about the cottage my parents
used to own on a tea coloured lake
two bedrooms deck dock drive and
forest all about Its been out of the
family for years and years but I
still recall the forest around it
and its bays and islands The way
the sun would slant through the
trees on a hot humid day The many
mosquitoes that would hover in the
ground hemlock and strawberry vines
the roadway dusty and straight

Loons would call in the still night
as we gathered around the pit fire
their ancient lonesome voice would echo
on the large hills around the lake
fire crackling laughter at stories
told The moon would always rise
across the lake and reflect towards
the large picture window on the waters
Storms seemed to be closer then at
home Thunder would rattle the windows
in the hours after midnight

now its someone elses cottage
someone elses memories

i feel tired today
need another coffee to wake up
watch some more tube
play with the cats
they are gone napping somewhere
in this apartment
