so much for the hour

place needs work
more scrubbing
more peeling of wax one
tile at a time

spending money on groceries
exotic now..Like gambling at
the big table..lean times

paying bills
and feeling sick
how did we manage that anyway

and yet...the gas furnace is new
enough..the townhouse beautiful
cut and stacked in angles Not
the slab of row houses Public

water is hot and fast
walls are further apart

stands for so much when one
was cramped into the little
world of there

Im away from the VOY
away from the booze today

last day of work this week
much to do
groceries tommorrow
a list from the girls
and a cab ride home

costs more to be here
but saving money is not misery

Id rather be alive and just
getting by
